Who we are

Prairie Flora Co. is a wholesale prairie plant nursery here to help you bring conservation home.

We see a striking parallel between the tight-knit communities found throughout prairie ecology and our own deep human need for connection. We want to explore how we can better the environment for all life, and maybe in doing so, discover more of how we belong within it. We look forward to working together to cultivate a thriving ecosystem that nurtures both nature and our shared human experience.

Thanks for visiting!

 FAQs

  • We’re dedicated to selling plants that are known to be native to the state of Oklahoma. Because Oklahoma is home to 7 diverse eco-regions, you may want to confirm that the species is also known to be found in your county. On that note, you can always check the USDA PLANTS Database for more detailed range maps.

  • You’ll notice some of the plants we offer are tagged as an “OK Ecotype”. This mean that that species originates from a seed gathered in Oklahoma. Why does this matter? Essentially, it means that the species is especially adapted to this—our climate. One of goals at Prairie Flora Co. is to continue to offer more plants grown from Oklahoma ecotype seed.

  • First: Prairie ecosystems thrive on biodiversity and interdependence among plant species. Many prairie plants form dense communities, relying on symbiotic relationships to maximize ecological functions such as soil stabilization, nutrient cycling, and habitat provision. But also, multiple plantings help create rhythms and drifts, ultimately leading to a more visually dynamic and impactful landscape.

Second: As a wholesale nursery, our business model is centered around providing plants in bulk quantities at competitive prices. By selling in larger quantities, we can offer cost-effective solutions for your landscaping and restoration projects.

We believe that these two sides of the coin make it possible for anyone to foster the ecological principles of prairie ecosystems where plant diversity and abundance contribute to overall ecosystem health and resilience.

  • A "plug" refers to a young plant cultivated in a multi-cell flat. A significant contrast between a 2” plug and a typical 4” potted plant available in retail settings lies in the space allotted for root development. At our nursery, we exclusively use 5” deep cell trays, ensuring ample room for robust root growth—a crucial factor for the healthy establishment of prairie plants.
